A Watchmaker Inside the Chess Community

Ackermann István was based in Győr and appears in records connected with the local chess circle. His brother Béla was also a watchmaker.

Documented Supply

A 1924 tournament-related source states that chess clocks were available from Ackermann on Baross Street. A 1927 advertisement raises the possibility that he also made clocks.

Attribution Standard

The evidence is weaker than for Weisz. Ackermann should be described as a documented regional seller and possible maker, not as a proven mass manufacturer.

Historical Significance

Ackermann shows how local watchmakers could connect regional chess communities to timing equipment before factory production centralized the industry.
